Zoe Woods, glass artist, recently won the youth art prize at the Waterhouse Natural History exhibition at the South Australian Museum. RadioAdelaides’ Chris Brunner met up with Zoe at Urban Cow Studio in the city, where her latest exhibition, Naturalis: Biotic Symmetry in Glass is on display.
Last November the Steuben Glass factory in Corning, New York State, closed its doors after 108 years of operation. The highly collected glassware was initially designed by Frederick Carder and later a who’s who of designers and glassmakers. Radio Adelaide’s Nikki Marcel was recently in Corning and sought out Beth Shott at the Carder Steuben Glass Shop, to find out what makes Steuben Glass so collectable.
The prestigious Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize Awards just graced Australia in its tenth year. The Waterhouse celebrates our intricate and complex global biodiversity and encourages excellence in natural history art.
The winner of the Youth category this year is a South Australian by the name of Zoe Woods. Zoe is a graduate in Arts and Glass Specialisation at UniSA. She speaks to Jennie Lenman about her piece, her interest in microbiology and her artistic process.

The iconic Blue Pony glass studio is the feature of the Jam Factory’s next exhibition. It opens on July 6 along with Transparency which showcases 11 different glass artists that have worked at the Jam Factory. Amanda King was involved in both Blue Pony and the Jam Factory and talks with Nikki Marcel about the allure of glass.

Twenty one artists are taking not just the visual but aural realms to the edge for Parallel Collisions at the Gallery of South Australia. There’s even works made by a pregnant python. Curators Natasha Bullock and Alexie Glass Kantor outline all that is happening as part of the Biennial with Nikki Marcel.
