A new kind of Purgatory with AES+F

An international airport is the perfect set for portraying modern day Purgatory. Inspired by Giovanni Bellini’s famous Renaissance painting of Purgatory, Allegoria Sacra,  the Russian collective AES+F have produced a spectacular video of the same name.
Dream sequences of a group of Sudanese transit passengers, a priest and air hostesses from outer space are played out in a futuristic airport with references to pop culture and iconic symbolism dating back to the Baroque.
Art Gallery of SA Director, Nick Mitzevich, tells Nikki Marcel why we will never look at airports in quite the same way again after seeing Allegoria Sacra.
